Youth Concern has a wide range of charity volunteer work opportunities available. All volunteers will need to submit Criminal Record Bureau checks as the roles may involve contact with vulnerable people. Previous criminal convictions will not necessarily prevent you from volunteering.
Drop-in Centre Volunteer
Can you spare a few hours a week? We need volunteers who are good listeners, to interact with young people (aged 13-25yrs) in our Aylesbury Drop-in Centre. You may be helping young people find a job, suitable accommodation or to access benefits entitlements of other specialist services such as substance misuse or sexual health. Alternatively, you may prefer to help with the cooking.
Experience of supporting vulnerable young people is preferable. A friendly, non-judgemental attitude is essential along with strong listening skills. Applicants must be over 18 years. Female volunteers and people from ethnic minorities are particularly welcome.
Can you help us to offer positive activities to local young people aged 13-25yrs? Are you into sport, music, drama, gardening, art, cooking? Do you have what it takes to encourage young people to get involved, to enjoy themselves and learn new skills? Can you help us to make a difference?
Previous experience with young people and/or activity area is preferred but NOT essential. You must have a positive, non-judgmental approach as well as strong communication skills, confidence and enthusiasm. Patience and sensitivity essential. Volunteers must be over 18.
We are looking for volunteers to help raise vital funds for Youth Concern to enable us to continue to support the vulnerable young people who visit our Drop-in Centre.
The role can be flexible to suit the skills/interests of the applicants but could include:
Organising fundraising events (working closely with the young people who visit the drop-in centre and the managers of Youth Concern)
Assisting the Manager to write funding applications to trust funds
Developing stronger links with local businesses and potential donors.
Organising mailshots and working on specific appeals
Previous professional experience in a related field is desirable. Good organisational and written and verbal communication skills essential. As are an ability to work on own initiative with feedback to line manager and enthusiasm and confidentiality.
Venue Caretaker Volunteer
We are looking for someone who is confident in undertaking minor maintenance tasks including:
- Keeping a list of general maintenance tasks
- Making phone calls to contractors who have been employed to undertake larger jobs.
- Purchasing equipment as required
- Liaising with the Line Manager
- Carrying out minor maintenance issues
- Locking and unlocking premises
The ideal applicant will be Aylesbury-based as this role could involve some unsocial hours with occasional late night locking of the building when the venue has been hired out.
